Dr. Anthony Squillaro is a double board-certified and fellowship-trained colon and rectal surgeon in San Francisco, providing comprehensive surgical care for colorectal disease at Sutter Health’s California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC).

Before joining Sutter West Bay Medical Group, Dr. Squillaro practiced with San Francisco Surgical Medical Group, a longstanding San Francisco surgical practice with roots dating to the 1930s. That experience helped shape the philosophy he brings to his practice today: combining modern surgical techniques with the accessibility, relationships and individualized attention traditionally associated with private surgical practice.

​Dr. Squillaro is the chair of Robotic Surgery at Sutter CPMC, which is a designated center of Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation.  He is among the highest volume robotic surgeons at CPMC.

Dr. Squillaro practices the full spectrum of colorectal and general surgery. He has a particularly strong experience and interest using advanced robotic surgery to treat colon & rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex pelvic floor disorders such as rectal prolapse. In addition, he treats common anorectal pathologies such as hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas and fecal incontinence.

Dr. Squillaro is originally from New Jersey and his medical training has brought him all over the world, treating patients from a multitude of backgrounds. He completed surgical training at the most prestigious institutions in the country including University of California San Francisco for general surgery and the University of Minnesota Colon & Rectal Surgery fellowship, one of the first colorectal fellowship programs in the country.

Robotic surgery is Dr. Squillaro's expertise and passion. From early on in residency, Dr. Squillaro gravitated toward robotic colorectal surgery and furthered this during a high-volume robotic colorectal fellowship. He has also published research on the benefits of robotic colorectal surgery techniques with the leading robotic surgery company, Intuitive Surgical.

He holds a clinical appointment at UCSF and his group at Sutter CPMC has been teaching faculty for decades for UCSF general surgery residents.
